The Two Minds Running Your Day
Ever wondered why you know what to do, but keep repeating the same patterns? Discover how your conscious and subconscious minds work together, and how kinesiology helps you understand what’s below the surface.
Have you ever driven home and realised you can't remember the trip? You stopped at the lights, changed lanes and took all the right turns, while thinking about dinner the whole time. So who was driving?
Your subconscious mind. Once you understand how it works with your conscious mind, a lot of things start to make sense.
Picture an iceberg
The small tip you see above the water is your conscious mind. It's the part of you that thinks, plans and makes decisions, like "I'm going to start walking every morning."
The much bigger part under the water is your subconscious mind. It holds your habits, memories, beliefs and feelings, many of them formed when you were young. It runs quietly in the background, keeping you safe and doing things on autopilot.
Why it matters
When the top and the bottom of the iceberg want different things, the bottom usually wins. That's why you can know you did a good job and still feel like a fraud, or decide to change a habit and be right back where you started a week later.
That isn't a personal failing. It just means something under the water needs some attention.
What this looks like in real life
You want to grow your business, but every time you go to post about it online, you freeze. Your conscious mind knows it's a good idea. Underneath, an old belief that it isn't safe to be seen keeps pulling you back.
You promise yourself you'll go to bed earlier, yet night after night you're still scrolling at 11pm. Part of you is holding onto the only quiet time you get all day, and it isn't ready to let go.
You know your partner loves you, but when they go quiet you feel anxious and start wondering what you did wrong. That reaction is often an old feeling from much earlier in life, showing up in the present.
You set a goal to eat well, then reach for something sweet every afternoon around 3pm. It's less about the food and more about a tired body and a mind looking for comfort.
You say yes to helping everyone, then feel resentful and worn out. Somewhere underneath, there's often a belief that you're only valued when you're useful.
When it's time for some support
If you read those examples and thought "that's me," you're in good company. Most of us have something under the water we've been working around for years.
It's worth reaching out when you keep repeating the same pattern even though you know better, when you understand why you do something but still can't change it, or when your body is carrying the stress through tiredness, tension or restless nights. Simply wanting to understand yourself more deeply is reason enough too.
Where kinesiology comes in
In a session, I use muscle testing to listen to what's sitting under the water. It helps us find the beliefs and feelings your thinking mind can't easily reach.
Then I use techniques like Emotional Stress Release and acupressure to release the stress attached to them. Together we get the top and bottom of your iceberg working as a team, so change feels easier.
Kinesiology is a gentle process, and my approach is supportive and effective. I work with clients across the Northern Beaches and online.
Something to try this week
Pick one small thing you keep meaning to do but don't. Each time you notice yourself avoiding it, pause and ask, "What am I protecting myself from right now?" Don't try to fix the answer. Just notice it, and jot it down if you like.
You'll start to hear your subconscious speaking, and that's where real change begins.
What is kinesiology, and is it for me?
Curious about kinesiology? Learn how your body communicates, why triggers are information, and how kinesiology helps you return to balance.
Kinesiology is a gentle, supportive way of understanding what your body is communicating and learning how to respond with awareness and responsibility.
It’s not about changing other people or fixing the outside world. Everyone is on their own journey. This work is about you and how your body responds to life.
Your body gives you constant feedback
Your body is always communicating, often in quiet, subtle ways.
You can think of it like the dashboard in a car. When a light comes on, it’s not there to alarm you, it’s giving you information. Ignoring it doesn’t make it disappear. Understanding it allows you to respond before things escalate.
Sensations such as tension, discomfort, symptoms, or emotional charge are your body’s way of saying, something here needs attention. Kinesiology helps you listen to those signals and understand what they mean.
Triggers are information, not the problem
It’s easy to believe that someone or something caused our reaction. More often, a trigger simply highlights where something within us is already tender or out of alignment. Like pressing on a bruise, the pressure didn’t create the bruise, it just revealed it.
Kinesiology gently supports you to explore:
What the body is reacting to
Where an old pattern, belief, or stored stress may still be active
What no longer feels supportive or aligned
This isn’t about blame or judgement, it’s about awareness.
How kinesiology works
Through gentle muscle feedback, kinesiology allows the body to guide the session. Rather than analysing everything mentally or reliving experiences, we listen to how the body responds to a situation, thought, idea, relationship, or decision.
From there, we support the body to release what’s no longer needed and return to a state of balance and alignment.
Alignment changes how you experience life
When your body is aligned, things begin to feel clearer. You respond rather than react. Decisions feel more grounded. You’re less likely to override yourself to keep the peace. Not because the world has changed, but because you’re more connected to your own inner knowing.
The intention of kinesiology is to support that reconnection, so you can live in a way that feels steady, authentic, and aligned with the life you want to create.
A gentle return to yourself
Your body isn’t working against you. It’s offering guidance. Kinesiology creates a calm, supportive space to listen, understand, and realign so you can move forward with clarity, trust, and self-responsibility.
